Blake Mycoskie & Annie F. Downs

Is God who He says He is Even When Things Don’t Go as Planned?

On this episode of the Catalyst Podcast Tyler Reagin sits down with Blake Mycoskie for a quick chat about TOMS campaign to end gun violence and then joins Annie F. Downs for a conversation about how to remember who God is even when life doesn’t’ go how you planned.

More from Blake on the TOMS campaign:

2018 Friends,

In the wake of the horrific shootings that have taken too many innocent lives, TOMS is taking a stand to help end the gun violence epidemic in our country and would love you to join us.

With our ‘End Gun Violence Together’ initiative, TOMS is committing $5 million to a coalition of organizations focused on creating a safer world for us and our children, including: Faith in Action, Giffords: Courage to Fight Gun Violence, Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action, March for Our Lives and more. These organizations are addressing the complex nature of gun violence through various tactics including mental health, programming in communities of color, research and policy, and suicide prevention.

This is just the beginning of our journey. We need your help and support in the fight to end gun violence and make our country a safer, more peaceful place. We’ve built technology on TOMS.com so all Americans can easily send a postcard to urge their Members of Congress to take immediate action on this issue by passing universal background checks. Sending a postcard takes less than 30 seconds and is a powerful way to make your voice heard by your Representative.

To give some context on this issue, universal background checks is a proposed federal policy change that would require a background check every time a gun is sold. Currently buyers can bypass the background check process at gun shows, online and other direct selling methods, a loophole statistically shown to increase the likelihood of gun violence. With this loophole, guns easily find their way into the hands of illegal buyers and gun traffickers, dramatically increasing the likelihood of gun murders and suicides.

Common sense safety is not a liberal or conservative issue, it’s life or death - that's why more than 90% of Americans support universal background checks. Just like giving children shoes to wear to school, we don’t see this as a political issue but a human one, to ensure everyone has a better tomorrow.

We need the faith-based community to help us keep our communities safe. All of us at TOMS will be using all of our resources--our profits, our voices, our platform and our partners--to put an end to gun violence. I look forward to working together to support this mission, and build a better, safer, tomorrow for all of us.

Carpe Diem,

Blake
